Abstract

Deflated is a memoir about the year after I naturally lost over 150 pounds. A grim fairy tale for fat girls, Deflated is highly concerned with the female experience of inhabiting a body, and of belonging to a society that imposes so many ideals upon its form. How can a woman enlarge herself in a culture that prizes feminine smallness above all else? How can a woman make herself smaller while maintaining—or enlarging—her natural, pre-existing grandness? These are the questions Deflated seeks to answer. | 125 pages
