Abstract
What I will attempt in this essay is to bring the critique to Schoenberg's artistic legacy first on the grounds of the philosophical debate that was going on in those years in the German-speaking world, more specifically between Idealism and Materialism. The second step will be that of bringing the understanding of Schoenberg methods on a cognitive level; and in doing so, I will establish theoretical ties between those philosophical systems and cognitive systems; namely the Cognitivist and the Connectionist approaches. The third step will be that of mirroring the association between the philosophical plane and the cognitive one in the form of aesthetic historical critique - particularly that of Hegel, Lukasz, and Adorno. The last step will be that of applying this philosophical-cognitive-aesthetic framework specifically to Arnold Schoenberg. In doing so, I will ultimately propose a possible methodology which, strongly connected to an historical line of thought, will bare ties with Francisco Varela's theory of Embodied Cognition. | 25 pages
