Abstract
" Holian" is a full-length screenplay. The story is about a boy named Paul, a high school senior with big plans of going away to school. When Paul learns that the family he would be leaving is starting to fall apart, he changes his plans and decides to stay home for school. Initially, Paul struggles with the ramifications of his decision until he falls in love with Galena, a girl from school. Galena helps Paul to see what it means to be part of a family and what a home is all about. For this story, my research included the reading and analysis of other screenplays. My goal was to find stories with a similar tone, an emphasis on character and a central conflict that revolved around the family or the home. After reading the screenplays, I would dissect them in order to identify their moments of clarity and their moments of confusion. It was only after this analysis that I could properly draw a connection to my thesis as I worked on developing the drafts. | 117 pages
